Bell Bajao! Rings a Bell :)

After a long time I came across a campaign, which is pitched so well, that you can connectwith it. The break through initiative connects right at the begining with the tag line Building human rights culture.... seems to have got it right :)

What's best about the campaign is that it does not cringe and plead for your attention. Most of the social campaigns I have see give rise to a sense of helplessness, like watching a tragic horrifying movie which you would rather forget or flip channels . The Bell bajao campaign instead tells us what we can do. The suggestion is simple and their portal http://www.bellbajao.org/ is interactive, lively and definitely not depressing.

I totally agree with the idea of bell-bajao. Though there is a law called ‘The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005' (PWDVA), it is mostly effective after the deadly deed been done.

@abhi: Taking into consideration recent happenings, I don't think it is effective enough even after the deadly deed being done.

well the worst part about this great campaign is that the chances it'll get replicated in real life is next to zero...we indians will keep on ignoring, walking past doors behind which violence on women and children is being perpetrated....despite the novelty of the concept being proposed here the sad fact is 'koi bell nahi bajayega'

I agree with abhi, we have a Postmortem perspective on law instead of a preventive one. Well Mr. No Emote the law by itself it powerless it is the people behind it who make it powerful. And Soubhik this campaign i feel will be different because its not asking the beaten women to go and lodge a complaint that requires guts! its just asking the people around to make a small gesture which requires conscience... I really pray you are wrong on this one

soubhik i agree with u but atleast now people are aware that if such crime is taking place inside the for walls of others house its not their personal matter.....nd seeing this people will certainly come forward.

I agree with the idea. But little confused that how Indians will take it or use it, as Indians never follow any rules and regulations. Still I appreciate the initiative.

Hi Mr. Helping Hands ,

Agreed we Indians might not be very good with following the rules... but this is not a rule ... its a decision to be taken from your heart and Indians do have a big heart ... dont you think so?

It is totally incorrect to say law is helpless. See, the structure of our society restricts such action of women to walk out of her hom and lodge a complaint. I am sure if something bad, no worse is happening with her, she wont go out. The structure what i am talking about is self sufficiency of the women to stand tall on her own, even if she leaves her husband. I have come across many cases where i have heard girls themselves talking about such things.

For example, take this recession thing happening. I m sure guys are worried (unlike me), but girls, i have heard them saying, ok no problem i will get married.

It may be a joke at that moment but true as well. If girls think they are weak, then they will be weak. But if they rise, I am sure they are much much powerful then their male counterparts.

Good blog. Its really insane to tell men to stop domestic violence when females initiate and 50% females are abusive to the extent that they threaten to file false rape case if someone tries to stop an abusive female. Have the creators thought of this or they are blind in their gynocentric misandrist rhetoric.

Glee.. So guys you have awaken to this new sence of responsibility for Domestic violence Huh??? When will you be awaken to the Domestic Violence on the MEN?? For you, when you see a moti Wife hit a Thin Husband with belan in movies, you laugh at it??? Dont you?? Thaz not a domestic violence for you?? Will you BEll Bajao for the fact that 50% of the Domestic violence in a married couple is initiated by Wives??? Did you not hear of Mrs.Rajni Narayan of Australia, who burnt the Willy of her husband. and very innocently said, she "just wanted to burn his willy" . Did not expect this to go so bad. Are you doing something about these as well??? The NCW Ministers say that the WOMAN are not MISUSING the DV and 498a, they are JUST ignorant and need awareness... When will you OPEN your eyes ... TRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG GHANTA BAJAO//

Well, Guys thank you for bringing into the picture a new perspective..... But I totally agree that domestic violence is not about women alone its about violence at home within the four walls without any gender consideration. I still believe Bell Bajao will work ... coz I would do the same gesture irrespective of who is beating whom.

Read this nice article in the Times of India on the Bell Bajao campaign - The link is for your reference. And i believe that the awareness about such a campaign is needed majorly. Effective or not is a point that can be debated on at a later stage. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Sunday_TOI/Ring_the_bell_stop_domestic_violence/articleshow/4093749.cms
